You’ve been planning and dreaming of this day for months...years...maybe your whole life! As you get closer to the big day, you’ll be working with your wedding photographer to plan out your photos for the day. One of the big points to consider: Are you going to do a first look photo? Or are you going to first lay eyes on each other when you’re walking down the aisle? Big decision!
I highly recommend capturing this priceless moment documentary-style for many reasons.
The first look photo allows you to get all of your wedding portraits out of the way before the ceremony. This gives you much more time to greet and mingle with your guests. If you wait to see each other at the altar, you’ll have to shoot portraits after the ceremony and miss the cocktail hour. If you do a first look session, you can join in and be toasted! It really will add a precious few hours to your time with your guests, which is awesome, since everyone wants to oooooh and ahhhh over you and your gorgeous dress.
This also allows your photographer time to catch more candids of you and your guests. The more photos you have at the end of the night the better! It’ll go by so quickly, you’ll want to have plenty of pics to look over to relive the day, for sure.
Another great reason to go for the first look photo is that your hair and makeup will look the very best at the beginning of your event. Think about it: If you cry during the ceremony (trust me, it’ll be hard not to!), your makeup could be ruined by the time you get to bride and groom photos!
If you do opt for the big reveal at the altar, I recommend having 2 photographers so that you capture the looks on both of your faces! But I really can’t recommend this OMG moment enough. His reaction when he first sees you will definitely make you feel like the princess you are!
